About Gems Lore

Welcome to Gems Lore — a friendly, trustworthy home for everything crystals and gemstones.
We created Gems Lore to be the kind of crystal resource we always wished existed: one that’s warm and welcoming to beginners, genuinely accurate about the stones themselves, and honest about the difference between folklore and fact. Whether you’re here to look up a stone’s traditional meaning, learn how to tell real from fake, or simply enjoy the beauty and history of the mineral world, we’re glad you found us.
Our Mission
Our mission is simple: to help you understand and enjoy crystals with confidence.
The crystal world is full of beautiful stones, fascinating history, and rich tradition — but it’s also full of misinformation, mislabeled stones, and overblown claims. We aim to be a clear, honest voice you can trust: celebrating the lore and meaning people find in crystals, while always being straight with you about the real mineralogy, the safety facts, and what’s tradition versus what’s proven.
Our Story
Gems Lore began with a single tumbled amethyst on a windowsill and a lot of unanswered questions. Years of collecting, reading, visiting gem shows, and learning the hard way which ‘bargains’ were really dyed glass turned that curiosity into something I wanted to share…
The Experience Behind Gems Lore
We believe you deserve to know who’s behind the information you’re reading. Here’s the real experience we bring:
- 6 years of collecting and studying crystals and gemstones
- We photograph many of our own specimens for the Site, so you’re seeing real stones.
We’re enthusiasts and lifelong learners first and foremost. Where a topic calls for professional expertise — such as appraising valuable gems or health questions — we’ll always point you toward qualified experts.
What We Cover
At Gems Lore, you’ll find:
- Crystal and gemstone meaning guides — the traditional properties, history, and lore of individual stones
- Practical how-tos — cleansing, charging, choosing, and caring for your crystals
- Identification help — spotting fakes, treatments, and look-alikes
- Buying guides and comparisons — to help you shop wisely
- Reference resources — hardness charts, birthstones, chakra associations, and more
How We Approach Our Content
Honesty and accuracy are at the core of everything we publish:
- We separate folklore from fact. The metaphysical and healing meanings we describe come from tradition and belief, not science, and we always say so. The mineral facts — hardness, formation, treatments, real-vs-fake tells — we work hard to get right.
- We prioritize your safety. Where a stone can be hazardous (for example, minerals containing copper, or stones that shouldn’t go in water), we tell you clearly. Please see our Disclaimer for important safety information.
- We never let commissions buy a recommendation. Some of our links are affiliate links, but our opinions are always our own — see our Affiliate Disclosure.
- We’re not a substitute for professional advice. Crystals are for beauty, inspiration, and meaning — not medical, psychological, or financial treatment.
