Aventurine: Meaning, Properties & Symbolism

Aventurine is a translucent-to-opaque quartz-rich gem material containing reflective mineral platelets that produce a sparkling optical effect called aventurescence. Green is the best-known color, but natural material also occurs in blue, red, orange, brown, gray and silvery varieties.

What Is Aventurine?

Aventurine is usually composed of interlocking quartz grains containing small reflective mineral inclusions.

The sparkling effect is caused by light reflecting from flat internal surfaces. In green aventurine, these reflectors are commonly chromium-bearing mica known as fuchsite. Red, orange and brown material may contain hematite, goethite or other iron-bearing inclusions.

Color

How to Clean Aventurine
