Green Apatite
Green is one of apatite’s most common natural gem colors. It ranges from yellow-green and olive to leek green, mint and bluish green.
Transparent leek-green material has historically been called “asparagus stone,” although the term is commercial rather than a mineral-species name. Green crystals also occur as attractive specimens associated with calcite, quartz, feldspar and pegmatite minerals.

Yellow and Golden Apatite

Does Apatite Change Color?
Most apatite does not show a strong alexandrite-style color change. Differences between daylight, warm incandescent light and cool LEDs often result from ordinary spectral response, pleochroism and camera settings.
Some apatite from Kazakhstan has been reported with a genuine color-change effect from yellowish green in daylight to pinkish orange under incandescent light. Such material is unusual and should be documented rather than assumed from edited photographs.
A video under two standardized light sources is more useful than a seller’s unsupported “color-change” label.
Natural Color vs. Treatment
Apatite is often sold without treatment, but heating is documented in the commercial market, particularly for some blue-green material.
Current marketplace listings include both untreated stones and heat-treated examples. Treatment may alter tone or improve marketability, so the seller should disclose it.

How Color Affects Cutting

A shallow cut may produce a window through the center. Excessive depth retains weight but can darken blue-green material and reduce face-up size.
