These observations should not be read as a permanent price list. Their value is analytical: even after controlling approximately for weight, shape, color, clarity, and broad cut label, the retail spread remains large.

This does not mean all laboratories use identical terminology. Does Premium Automatically Mean Best Value?
No.
A Premium-quality laboratory-grown diamond may be technically superior on several grading criteria but still represent poorer value for a particular buyer if the price premium is large and the visible difference is negligible.
For example, moving from an attractive near-colorless, eye-clean Standard stone to a top Premium stone may increase the asking price without creating a proportionate face-up improvement under normal jewelry viewing.
The appropriate question is therefore not “Which label is highest?” but “Which measured improvement am I paying for, and can I actually see or use it?”
This distinction becomes especially important because manufactured stones can make very high nominal color and clarity comparatively accessible.
Cut Can Matter More Than a Small Color or Clarity Upgrade

This modest increase is very different from assuming that every additional carat creates an exponential rarity premium.

HPHT and CVD are production methods, not automatic quality grades.
A well-cut, attractive CVD diamond should not be assumed inferior to an HPHT diamond simply because of the growth acronym, and the reverse is equally true. Both methods can produce high-quality material.
Growth method can still matter when the individual stone has visible consequences associated with its growth history—unfavorable color tint, strain, transparency issues, metallic inclusions, graphitic features, or post-growth treatment.

- HPHT-grown and subsequently treated;
- CVD-grown without later treatment;
- CVD-grown and later HPHT processed;

A grading or quality-assessment report performs several functions. It identifies the diamond as laboratory-grown, records quality information according to the laboratory’s system, and provides a document that future buyers can verify against the stone.

“Investment grade” is not a standardized laboratory-grown diamond quality category.

Laboratory-grown diamond jewelry sometimes uses a relatively affordable center stone inside an expensive precious-metal or designer setting.
A $700 loose center diamond may end up inside a finished ring costing several times that amount. Comparing the completed ring with another loose stone therefore creates a false impression of the diamond price.
